Mennonites or Anabaptists: Distinctive roots of the Low German Mennonites

Our story is often heard in tidbits without the context to give the story meaning. In this presentation I endeavor to trace the Mexican Mennonite story back to its 16th century origins. I will examine the political, economic, and religious context of the reformation that produced Martin Luther and Menno Simons. A survey of the key distinctions between Catholics, Protestants, Anabaptists, and Mennonites lead to questions about the implementation in the movement that became known as Mennonite.

Nuestra historia a menudo se escucha en cositas sin el contexto para darle significado a la historia. En esta presentación intento rastrear la historia de los menonitas mexicanos hasta sus orígenes en el siglo XVI. Examinaré el contexto político, económico y religioso de la reforma que produjo Martín Lutero y Menno Simons. Una encuesta de las distinciones clave entre católicos, protestantes, anabaptistas y menonitas genera preguntas sobre la implementación en el movimiento que se conoció como menonita.
